Go Solar

Go Solar In an industry leading initiative, BGC will offer a solar power system as an option with every new home sold.

The solar power system, sometimes referred to as a photovoltaic (or PV) system, will be supplied through MySolar, a company which provides consumers and builders with a range of retail energy solutions. The move to make PV systems more available is a shift towards environmental accountability as well as a strategic marketing move.

BGC is effectively assisting clients to ‘future proof’ their homes, through setting up the mechanisms to save money and the environment, as well as adding value to their investment.

Purchasing a new home with the PV cells supplied will provide ongoing savings for customers. Electricity produced by a grid-connected PV system will first be used to run equipment in the home, and any excess output will be exported into the electricity grid. When there is no output from the PV system, for example at night, electricity is imported from the grid to run home equipment. Meters show how much electricity has been exported to the grid and how much electricity has been imported from the grid.

PV modules collect the sun’s energy and an inverter converts the direct current (DC) to 240 Volt alternating current (AC) electricity. This will run a home’s standard electrical equipment matching Synergy’s electricity grid power supply.

Based on studies conducted by greenhouse consultants Energetics, a 1kW solar power system can save around $275 per year on energy costs. Similarly, a 1.5kW system can save around $450 a year, or close to 50% of an average household electricity load. The saving could be even higher if reported future power charges are increased.

The savings are not only monetary, they are environmental too. The energy saved from a 1.5kW system translates into 2.4 tonnes of CO2 being offset from polluting the environment. According to carbonneutral.com.au, that’s roughly equivalent to planting 14 trees.
